Try Something New is a series of four 6 week-long sessions where participants in our day programme cycle through themed workshops. Over 24 weeks, the groups build their skills by completing projects, setting goals and having fun together.
ART
The Art group explores the use of stencils. They begin by drawing various designs on paper, then move to t-shirts, and finish with a mug project. Each participant takes home a t-shirt and a mug with their designs.
HEALTHY AND STRONG
Participants in the Healthy and Strong group work on building strength and stamina in addition to learning about healthy meals. They hold yoga poses, do lunges, use weights and power walk to increase speed and stamina. Everyone has fun improving skills and chatting with friends.
KITCHEN AND COOKING SKILLS
The Kitchen and Cooking Skills group learn to make a smoothie for themselves and a friend. They use different appliances and gather all of the ingredients and tools needed before getting started. They experiment with different recipes to arrive at the smoothie flavour they enjoy the most.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Participants in the Photography group develop on composition and technical skills. Using the cameras on phones and iPads they work on getting the subjects of their photos in the centre of the frame, make sure their photos are clear and not blurry, and take selfies. The group also goes out into the community to take pictures around the neighbourhood.
